Phnom Penh's central market (phsar thom thmei) is an impressive concrete structure built in 1937. It's undergoing a 2 year renovation, but is still in use and a busy place. The renovation is being paid for by the French government.
It is a large dome with four halls reaching out from it. It was one of the buildings in the series of southeast Asian architecture books that I helped publish at work last year. It was fun to actually be there and take photos.
The central dome is full of watch and jewelry counters, as well as a few souvenir counters. One of the halls sells food, another is for clothing, and the other two were closed for construction.
